It all began in 2017 with a group of community leaders coming together to lend a hand and resources to Island Cemetery. The Friends of Island Cemetery was established as a 501 (c) (3) to promote the preservation and conservation of this beautiful and important cultural and natural resource. The original group of interested community members has grown to include more than 100 members who have donated their time and effort as well as monetary support to show their appreciation for the opportunity to enjoy this special open space situated in the old historical district of downtown Newport.
